God Waits for Our Trust

“So the Lord must wait for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help.” Isaiah 30:18

In 2 Chronicles 14- 16 I read how King Asa of Judah returned God’s people back to keeping His covenant and laws. Prior to even this, he trusted God to defeat Judah’s enemies. Later, however, in the 36th year of  his reign when the King of Israel fortified Ramah so no one could leave or enter that region, he became afraid. So he made a treaty with the ruler of Damascus and gave him silver and gold from the palace and the Temple treasures. By doing this, he solicited his help to protect them, and King Ben-hadad complied by attacking Israel. As soon as Baasha, the King of Israel heard about this, he abandoned his plan of fortifying the city. However, Hanani the seer came to King Asa to rebuke him for trusting in another king instead of seeking God for help.  This made King Asa angry and so he imprisoned him. Unfortunately, King Asa continued trusting others instead of trusting God. When he developed a foot disease, he trusted his physicians instead of seeking the Lord for His help, and died. What a tragic ending to King Asa’s life.

But don’t we all do that at times? Instead of seeking God concerning a matter.
When we are afraid or are hard pressed, we turn to someone or something else
(Proverbs 3:5-6).
I have done that too many times. It’s been painful and deliverance did not come.
But deliverance always comes when I begin to put my trust completely in the Lord and His Word.
It’s only in Him I find confidence, peace and can rest. (Isaiah 30:15)

“For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for you.” Isaiah 64:4
